Don't remove ... add.
The brain doesn't cope very well with processing negatives. If I told you right now not to think about a monkey... it's almost certain that you are, in fact, thinking about a monkey, right?
When it comes to creating habits, it is a lot easier to add (positive) into your life rather than remove (negative).
For example, imagine you want to limit how often you snack on chips.
The normal response would be to try and stop eating chips for a month or so ... this would be removing.
However, if you decide that you will increase the amount of fruit you eat each day ... this is an example of adding in. By increasing the amount of fruit you eat, it's likely that you will subconsciously reduce the number of chips you are snacking on.
You are a lot more likely to stick with this behaviour because it is positive. When you stick with a behaviour long enough, it becomes a habit.
