Looking for a healthy breakfast option? Then look no further! This maple granola recipe is not only delicious, but also extremely nutritious and easy to make. With such a diverse amount of ingredients, this recipe is chock-full of fibre and protein which will help keep you full until lunch.
If you're not already aware, consuming adequate fibre is extremely important for your health and can actually help you lower your risk of heart disease, strokes, type 2 diabetes and bowel cancer. Likewise, consuming adequate levels of protein is also extremely beneficial to your health, and amongst many other things, it functions as the building block for bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. It will also help keep you feeling satiated throughout the day.
This healthy maple granola recipe is also vegetarian and can easily be made vegan by replacing the honey with rice malt syrup or extra maple syrup.
My maple granola recipe has a light crunch to it, and with an assortment of seeds, nuts, spices (and other ingredients), every mouthful has a diverse flavour kick. This recipe is naturally sweetened with ingredients like honey, maple syrup and vanilla essence; however, I didn't want it to be overly-sweet. Thus, I spent a fair bit of time adjusting this recipe to ensure that it's sweet enough to enjoy for breakfast and keep you coming back for more, but not sweet enough to be have that sickly sweet taste that you'd only expect out of processed cereals with a high sugar content.
Serves: 10. 1 cup per serve (approximately 75 grams)
This healthy maple granola works great as a cereal replacement. If you're a little time poor in the mornings, you can just pour some milk over the top. However, my favourite way to consume it is to sprinkle it over the top of some yoghurt or a smoothie bowl. It can also be consumed by itself as a healthy snack throughout the day!
