So you're here to learn about the benefits of meal planning, huh?

Well, before we dive into the benefits, let me paint a picture for you...

You have worked a long and stressful day at work. You walk through the front door, kick your shoes off, dump your bag down and head straight to the fridge because you are HUNGRY! You open up the fridge and ? *sigh*? your food options feel limited ? you have no energy to think about what to make for dinner, but also, the thought of having to drive to the supermarket to collect ingredients, cook and then clean ... NOPE that is not happening ? you have no energy for that either. You pull your phone out, and the very next minute, you are ordering uber eats (specifically honey chicken) ? whoops ? you tell yourself that you will try to be better next week.

Does this sound familiar to you?

I get it?

So often, we feel absolutely swamped with so many other things going on in life, that we feel like we don?t have the time to eat healthily!

Well, I have a solution for you.

(Drum roll, please?)

Meal Planning

And NO, I am not talking about prepping every meal for the week. I am NOT talking about eating plain, unflavoured chicken, rice and broccoli 3 times a day (...yuck)!

I am talking about introducing more structure into your weeks.

I am talking about removing the guilty feeling you get after you order Uber Eats ? again.

I am talking about eating to fuel your body adequately and feel your best!

Meal planning is a wonderful tool for so many reasons. But the best part about meal planning is that you can make it as structured or as flexible as you like. You can make it work for YOUR goals and for YOUR lifestyle.

Why Does Meal Planning Work?

Well, let's consider the imaginary scenario I wrote at the top of this page. Without properly structuring your meals for the week (aka ? meal planning), you're going to be making food choices when you're tired, stressed, busy and emotional. I don't know about you, but my decisions are pretty much always terrible when I'm any one of those things.

So, it's no surprise that you don't make the best food choices when you haven't planned everything in advance. And I'm sure I don't have to tell you that poor food choices will often lead to weight gain (as well as plenty of other health issues). Just like with most things in life, having a plan in advance almost always leads to better outcomes than just "winging it".

By meal planning, you're essentially making food decisions days in advance when you're in a calm, rational state of mind. For example, on a Sunday, you might plan all your weekly food in advance, do the shopping and maybe even prepare snacks and meals in advance (meal prep) if you know you have a busy week coming up. By doing this, you're able to make meal choices that will help you achieve your health goals ? rather than making a poor, spur-of-the-moment decision to get your third takeaway meal for the week.
